A Lowcountry Wedding Magazine Premiere Issue: Sneak Peek!

So, I know we've taken a bit of a blog hiatus, but I promise it's been for a great cause!  Over the past few months, we've been slaving away over the premiere issue of A Lowcountry Wedding mag.   It's been quite the process, we've been planning shoots, selecting real weddings and attempting to figure out the world of InDesign.  We've had a few hang ups with some things behind the scenes, so we thank you for your patience!  With it being our first issue, everything has taken a little longer than expected, but we'd rather have it perfect then send out something we're not 100% proud of...and we promise you're it's going to  be well worth the wait!  So, to hold you over until the end of the week, we thought you'd give you a sneak peek of the beautiful cover shot by the talented Angela Cox Photography at the stunning RiverOaks.  Ash and Co. Bridal killed it with model Katie Cockman hair and makeup, as she rocked a gorgeous LulaKate gown and that beautiful Moon and Lola necklace....Do you like!?!

We’re taking a trip down to the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa this morning to share a beautiful Oceanside affair from King Street Photo Weddings that is sure to have you dreaming of a destination wedding!  With plans for a short engagement, Bride Jaime immediately dove into her wedding planning duties and quickly selected HHI as the destination.  Thanks to their stunning renovation, beautiful ceremony deck and an amazing coordinator, Julia Dodson, it was no surprise The Westin Resort & Spa  became their venue of choice.  But it was Julia’s recommendation of Michel Berda of King Street Photo Weddings that was the missing piece.  Michel’s artistic eye and diligent approach to his craft made for stunning images and a pretty awesome blog post for our A Lowcountry Wedding readers!

Lowcountry Wedding Vendor {Sperry Tents}

There are a few things that make my heart skip-a-beat quite like a Southern wedding venue paired with an oh-so lovely tent.  Now add our friends at Sperry Tents to that mix and you've got a little slice of Lowcountry wedding heaven.  Sperry Tents is the end all, be all when it comes to breathtaking Southern tents and, lucky for us, they've stopped by today to share a few tips to assist in planning your outdoor reception... .

Considering an outdoor reception under the classic, Lowcountry backdrop of Spanish moss-covered live oaks?  Here is our quick guide to what you need to know as you begin to plan your outdoor wedding reception.

Using a tent isn’t just about keeping your family and friends out of the elements (they can be heated and cooled!), but also about creating your own unique venue, customized for your celebration. The exact same tent can lend itself to a modern-style aesthetic featuring clean lines and crisp colors or be transformed into a romantic haven with draped fabrics and crystal chandeliers.

Our Sperry Sailcloth tents are undeniably special.  Any bride-to-be who has spent time clicking around on wedding blogs or Pinterest has surely come across these tents.  The tents are round or oval-shaped, installed on custom milled wooden poles and topped with pennant flags on each peak. They’re reminiscent of a great old teak sailboat you might see gliding through Charleston Harbor.

Okay, you’re sold on hosting a tented reception.  Now what?

While I always recommend hiring a wedding planner, if your reception venue is outdoors, your first call should be to the tent company. What you may not realize is that the tent provider usually offers a range of services including flooring (dancefloor and stage or even custom-built decking), lighting, custom draping, and furniture rental.  In fact, our company also provides power distribution equipment, restroom trailers, and onsite event service.  We also create scaled layout drawings for every event—from a 50 person cocktail reception to a 5,000 person seated dinner.  We will become fast friends as we help you navigate through some fun decisions (Customized pennant flags! Bistro lights! Hanging lanterns!) and some not-so-glamorous ones (fire permits and restroom trailers, anyone?).

Before picking up the phone, pull together a few details to have on hand during our conversation. Here’s a quick list of questions to help you prepare: 

• When is your wedding?
• What is the reception location and how many guests will you have?
• Do you plan on hiring a DJ or a band?
• Have you picked a service style for the reception (seated dinner, standing reception, etc.)?
• What is the terrain surface and topography of the site?
• Is there any power available to the area or will you need to have this provided?
• Where will the guests use the restroom?
• Should any specific décor / style details be included in the proposal?
• What is your budget range?

Don’t stress if some of these details are still up in the air—we’ll help you work through your numbers and prioritizing equipment based on your location and budget. A site visit will also ensure all of the planning comes together seamlessly.

What else should you expect before saying “yes!” to the Sperry Tent?

Many clients mistakenly assume that a home wedding will be more cost effective than a traditional wedding venue.  While the word “savings” and “wedding” should never coexist in the same sentence, consider the extra money you’re spending to host the wedding at your home as an investment in the venue that holds the most meaning for you. Parts of the ‘outdoor equipment package’ are not always the most exciting, but are necessary to make everything function. Generators are not as beautiful as hand-engraved invitations; however, walking down the aisle in your grandmother’s garden might land higher on the priority list.

Finally, make sure to bury the bourbon. We can’t control the weather, but we can control how to manage it on your wedding day. Hire a company you trust, one that provides emergency numbers and holds weekend hours. Weddings are truly a team sport— leave covering home plate to us.

2014 Wedding Photography Giveaway {Priscilla Thomas Photography}

Yesterday, we joined the industry's best for a fabulous (yet rainy) afternoon of Lowcountry bridal fashion at Charleston Fashion Week's Spring Bridal Show...and I can tell you this, it did not disappoint!  Make sure to check out our instagram feed to see a few snapshots of some of the lovelies and, of course, we'll recap things later this week.  Okay, so now to the (REALLY) good stuff.   We've teamed up with our talented friend and Lowcountry wedding vendor, Priscilla Thomas Photography,  to bless one lucky, Lowcountry couple with one heck of a prize...(drum roll, please!) A Free Wedding Photography Package!  Fabulous, I know! So, read the details below and get to pinning!

2014 Wedding Photography Giveaway

Enter to win free wedding photography for your 2014 soiree by Priscilla Thomas. One lucky couple will receive 8-hours of wedding photography coverage, image optimization, and a DVD of edited images in hi-resolution. Home Use Rights is included - printing rights and permission to give photos to friends and family.

Who Can Enter

To enter, you must be engaged and having a 2014 wedding that will take place in the Lowcountry - Hilton Head, Charleston, Myrtle beach or any place between these areas. One mobile photo entry per engaged couple. You must be 18 years or older to enter.

How it Works

1. Starting at Midnight on March 24, 2013 and ending at Midnight on March 31, 2013: Go to A Lowcountry Wedding's Pinterst board called 2014 Wedding Photography Giveaway  and repin the contest poster.  Easy, huh?

2. After repinning the poster, take a mobile picture with your fiance and email the image to Priscilla at prisca.photography@gmail.com. Include you and your fiance's names, the wedding date, wedding location, email, and phone number. Be sure to receive a confirmation email from Priscilla verifying receipt of the mobile photo and your eligibility for the giveaway. All mobile pics must be submitted by Midnight on March 31, 2013.

3. Starting at Midnight on April 1st, mobile pictures entered will be pinned to ALW's Pinterest board: 2014 Wedding Giveaway. The couple's mobile photo that receives the most Pinterest repins by Midnight on April 7th will be the winner.

How to Increase Your Odds of Winning

1. Spread the word about the contest. Share with friends and family through Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and mobile photography apps. Remember, you'll need their help to repin your photo on the Pinterst board!  Make sure to reference A Lowcountry Wedding and Priscilla Thomas Photography when you share. On Twitter, give us a shout out with @alowcountrywed and @priscaphoto and tag  A Lowcountry Wedding in your Facebook share.  Oh, and make sure to hashtag it up by using #alowcountrywed and #priscillathomasphoto.

1. No purchase required to enter.

2. Any personal information provided to Priscilla Thomas or ALW will only be used to contact the winning couple. No solicitations will occur. No contact information will be shared with any other persons or entity.

3. By entering the contest your are granting permission for ALW and Priscilla Thomas to edit, reproduce, and publish mobile photographs submitted to the 2014 Wedding Photography Giveaway. Given the value of the giveaway, you may be required to report the value of this package on personal income taxes. Please review South Carolina's state income tax regulations. ALW and Priscilla Thomas are not liable for any negligence or evasion of the winning couple in reporting or claiming the value of the wedding photography giveaway.

5. In the case that Priscilla Thomas is already contractually obligated to another couple on the winning couple's 2014 wedding date, other photography services will be awarded. Substitute giveaway photography can include the following options: engagement portrait session, bridal session, bridal boudoir session, rehearsal photography, after wedding session, and 1-year anniversary portrait session. In the case where a substitution for the wedding day photography is required, Priscilla Thomas and the winning couple will discuss the other photography options itemized above that they can have for free. The selections may not exceed $3,000 in value, but may be less than $3,000 in value.

6. Travel fees or on-location fees may apply and are not included in the giveaway package.

7. In the case of technical errors, the contest will be extended to ensure each participant receives sufficient time to submit to the contest and/or to have their mobile photo repinned. If you experience technical problems, please notify Priscilla Thomas immediately.

8. ALW will receive exclusive publication of images by Priscilla Thomas of the winning couple's wedding. If the winning couple purchases other photography options, ALW will also receive exclusive publication of those images.

9. The winning couple must sign a photography contract with Priscilla Thomas. This contract will be provided to the couple after contacting them. The winning couple will have 2-weeks to sign and return the contract or forfeit the wedding photography package they won in the giveaway.

I have to say, I couldn't be more excited about this week's ALW line-up.  We've got one stunning Lowcountry wedding after another, a charming Downtown Charleston bridal session and even an Isle of Palms bachelorette party that will probably have you running for the nearest bottle of champagne just so you can join in on the fun! But to kick-start what's sure to be a very pin-able week over here, we're heading down to Hilton Head for Ashley + Phil easy-going, beach affair planned by Weddings with Leah.  This cute couple tied the knot in a low-key, ocean side ceremony in front of an intimate gathering of family and friends before making their way back to the beach house to celebrate the night away!  My favorite part...all of the wonderful pop-up stationery that the bride and groom designed themselves.  Genius! This gorgeous, destination fête took place at the quaint, Beaufort Inn and is the epitome of all your Lowcountry dreams!  The beautiful Bride, Amie, rocked a breathtaking, lace gown with a seriously. flattering back and bold, emerald earrings.  The gals looked fabulous in classic, green frocks that were complimented by fresh, white hydrangea bouquets.  After a romantic outdoor ceremony, the lively couple and their guests celebrated the night away in a stunning, tented reception complete with Lowcountry cuisine from Southern Graces.  Thanks to Charleston wedding vendor, Fia Forever Photography, for capturing all this Southern perfection!

Lowcountry Wedding {Details}

Can we talk about some of my favorite Lowcountry wedding details?!  I thought so :)  The coast of South Carolina is home to a few of my favorite beach towns: Hilton Head, Charleston and Myrtle Beach.  These coastal cities are full of Southern charm and have a distinct Lowcountry personality that makes our weddings every Southern girl’s dream!

These chairs are wonderful and when teamed up with those fabulous fans you’ve got pure perfection.   They’ll give your guests and extra breeze as they watch your intimate ‘I do’s’.  I’m picturing an gorgeous, outdoor ceremony under the grand Oaks with a beautiful Plantation home in the background.  Swoon.

Menus on printed on napkins…yes, please!  What an elegant touch to any place setting.  I just hope I wouldn't get it dirty!

Don’t you just love this idea?  Place note cards on each table with fun questions printed atop each one.  Throughout the reception guests have the opportunity to leave their comments on the card(s) of their choice.  I can only imagine how amusing/inappropriate the answers could get as the evening goes on.  How much fun would it be to read over their answers when you return from your honeymoon with a bottle of wine?  Tons!

I just had to include this.  I can’t think of a better way to really get your guests excited about your upcoming nuptials then to let them know there is going to be some serious celebrating taking place and you need to know what tunes get them out of their seats.  Forget the entrée choices, just make sure we’ve got some ‘Party in the USA’ and ‘Tootsie Roll’…you know what I mean!?

Joy Thigpen, just stop it with your seaside perfection.  I love everything about this.  It is oh-so Lowcountry.  Not only do I love the grey linen but that oyster garland is pure heaven.  If done right, and it’s done so right here, oyster shells are a laid back but chic touch.

I had to share these star lanterns.  What a beautiful touch to this Southern soiree.  They’ve got a clean, modern feel that would a darling addition to any tented reception under the Lowcountry stars.

If it wasn't for Pinterest, I'm not sure I would get my daily fix of Southern wedding details.  Luckily, with all the talented wedding vendors that call the Lowcountry home, I don't have to go far to get my pin on!  So, today I'm sharing a serious round up of some of my favorite place setting that have recently graced my Pinterest account.  Boy, do I love a good tablescape.  It adds an instant dash of elegance for any Charleston, Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head Wedding!  Don't you agree?

Southern Weddings {Boutonnieres}

Who’s ready for a little bout-scootin’ Wednesday?!?  Today in the Lowcountry, we’re sharing our current obsession…boutonnieres!  I'm not sure why, but boutonnieres have become one of my favorite wedding details.  They sum up your entire wedding in one adorable little package and, let’s be serious, who doesn’t love accessorizing all the men in your bridal party?  You know I get a little Pinterest crazy sometimes and I live for beautiful, Southern wedding details, so here are a few that caught my eyes from some of our favorite Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach and Charleston weddings.

Southern Weddings {Cakes}

I have a slight tendency to go a little crazy on Pinterest and who can blame with all the fabulous wedding inspiration there is out there.  Today, I'm sharing a handful of my favorite cakes that have been floating around in Pinterest-land and I know you're going to love every single one!  I guess I'm having a gold moment because quite a few of these lovelies are dusted with a gold shimmer.  If you haven't already, don't forget to check out our previous posts on our favorite, swoon-worthy wedding cakes.

Lowcountry Venue {September Oaks Vineyards}

Today's stunning styled shoot at September Oaks Vineyard in Ridgeland, South Carolina was designed to show off the stunning Lowcountry wedding venue and highlight the 2012 Pantone Color of the year, Tangerine Tango...and I promise, you're going to love it! The 10-acre vineyard property originally was part of the McTeer estate and is now home to an award winning family owned boutique winery. Beginning in 2011, it has been made available as a wedding and event venue with a charming guest house, a paved arbor, gazebo and plenty of convenient onsite parking. Because September Oaks is a working vineyard and winery, all events are held outdoors. The dream team of Lowcountry wedding vendors started with Larger than Life Events who designed the chic affair while InventivEnvironments handled the dazzling decor and Marie Kato rocked it with the fabulous flowers (I die over those tulips!). Thanks to the talented Bita Bookman for the gorgeous images...

Hilton Head Wedding {Megan + Kevin}

Ladies, if you're anything like me, Sunday's during the Fall consist of being inundated with NFL Football games (we're talking multiple TVs and computers!) and the most up-to-date stats on my husband's Fantasy Football team...sounds like heaven, right?  Not so much!  So, with the hopes of brightening up your Football-soaked Sunday (and mine), we'll be delivering some Lowcountry wedding loveliness for your viewing pleasure :)  To kick things off right, we're serving up Megan + Kevin's peacock-inspired Hilton Head Wedding at the luxurious Omni Oceanfront Resort.  With Fierce Photography on hand to capture the entire affair, the couple said 'I do' in a sweet, outdoor ceremony before join their guests for a lively celebration!
