Carol & Chris tied the knot over Memorial Day weekend at St. James Episcopal Church on James Island where Bride Carol donned a lovely strapless gown as her maids wore a charming shade of orange.. Before celebrating with their guests at their Carolina Yacht Club wedding, the newlyweds hopped in the back of a 1947 Lincoln Continental Convertible from Lowcountry Valet & Shuttle for a memorable trip Downtown. Chris's uncle's band, 17 South, kept the dance floor rocking throughout the night. To Carol's surprise, Chris joined his friends on stage to serenade his new bride. The evening came to a close when the couple departed under a tunnel of sparklers and hopped aboard a getaway boat as they headed off into the Charleston Harbor beneath the full moon. Charleston Destination Wedding at Wild Dunes Resort
OK Florist stole the show when designing the blooms for this killer Wild Dunes wedding, Bride Amber selected an eye-catching palette of coral and turquoise, perfect for a bash on the beach, to highlight their coastal ceremony. The couple envisioned a Charleston destination wedding that brought their loved ones together for a spiritual experience and that’s just what they got. Amber wore a beautiful lace gown with a timeless train. Her hair was effortlessly swept back by the team at Vanity Salon and she carried a luscious bouquet of of flowers. The Father-of-the-Bride built a stunning wooden cross to serve as the focal point for their Oceanside nuptials that Ok Florist adorned with coral charm peonies, beautiful roses and astible. After saying ‘I do’, the newlyweds made their way to the Dunes for some intimate time alone before celebrating the night away with their friends and family. Creek Club at I'On Wedding by Sweetgrass Events & Anne Rhett Photography
After a week of sun and fun, David and Adrienne’s big day arrived. David started the day on the beaches of Wild Dunes, a spot where he and his family had vacationed for years, with a fresh catch, but soon he was off to greet the biggest catch of them all: his wife-to-be, Adrienne. After being married under the oaks overlooking the a creek, the two celebrated with a southern style supper. Sweetgrass Events created a truly heartfelt and homegrown affair at the Creek Club at I’On. Guests walked away with homemade peach preserves grown in the groom’s peach crop and canned by his mother. Doilies and delicate flowers abounded, and twin flower girls meant double the cuteness! As the sun eased down over the creek, it seemed that Adrienne’s sisters had been right in their toast, and that Nicholas Sparks couldn’t have written a better wedding scene. But what is romance without a little rock n roll? After dark, the band kicked things into high gear, causing dancing so fierce that it resulted in a seam rip or two! This wedding had it all: pearls, poise, and an authentically fun time for the couple and their families. Purple McCrady's Wedding by Carolina Photosmith
Amber and Jensen returned to their Carolina roots when they planned their destination wedding in Charleston, South Carolina. The couple currently calls California home and brought their relaxed, fun style to the East coast for a beautiful garden wedding ceremony in the heart of Holy City at the Confederate Home. Amber stunned in a fitted gown with a sweetheart neckline while her maids donned one-shouldered purple dresses. After saying 'I do', the couple and their bridal party hopped aboard a trolley to start the celebration. Mimi Nicole Events designed dreamy bouquets full of luscious white peonies with a romantic pop of pale purple. Purple and Red Wedding in Charleston, SC
As we headed to Fall, and we see color palettes starting to change, I thought you would enjoy this purple and red wedding from Charleston, South Carolina. Captured by Diana Deaver Weddings, this beauty took place at the Creek Club at I'On. Bridesmaids donned floor-length black gowns, while the men sported classic black tuxedos. Full of orchids, ranunculus and tulips, I'm completely obsessing over the righteous blooms Branch Design Studio created in eye-catching shades of purple and red. The couple, Lauren and Brian, married in an outdoor ceremony along the water before joining their guests to celebrate the night away! I can't get enough of the hanging mason jars filled with votives and deep red roses!

Southern Wedding at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens by Riverland Studios

If you're in the market to be inspired, then I'm about to hook you up with this Thomas Bennett House beauty! The lovely Jeanne Mitchum Photography sent over this killer collaboration with Wildflowers Inc. and I immediately knew I had to share it. The color palette starts with varying shades of green and slowly adds in magenta with pops of yellow and blue. Not only did the vivid color scheme pull me in, but the awesome mixture of textures that Wildflowers Inc. created completely sealed the deal. I'm loving the use of succulents (big and small!), the addition of billy balls and how effortlessly the centerpieces made its way down the table. The invitation suite from Merrymint Designs combined a beautiful emerald green with gold accents while the intricate cake with lace-like details was styled to the tee! The vintage table settings with local honey favors from Bees-R-Us were the perfect way to finish off the look. Last but not least, the lovely Amanda looked divine in her lace gown with a sweetheart neckline.

Navy Pavilion at Patriots Point Wedding by Sweetgrass Social
If you're a Southern gal who's in the mood for a preppy affair, then sit down and take a peek at this Pavilion at Patriots Point wedding from the sweet ladies at Sweetgrass Social. It's everything you could want in a Lowcountry wedding and so much more. We love the navy color palette, the boys in their dinner jackets (so very T-Rav of them!), the Citadel ceremony, the charming Navy table runners and last but definitely not least, Shannon's stunning gown. Thanks to Jamie Clayton Photography for capturing all of the wonderful details.
What is your engagement story:
"Dan and I are high school sweethearts. We had been dating (with the usual college ups + downs) for 10 years, 1 month, and 1 day on the day of our wedding. So the wedding, especially the reception, was as much about thanking our family and friends for being by our sides during all those years together as it was celebrating our marriage. We wanted to make sure they felt special and knew how much we appreciated each of them - which was what inspired the photo escort cards and the thank you place cards."
Why did you choose Charleston for your wedding?
"Dan went to the Citadel and we have so many wonderful memories in the city from our college days. So we knew Charleston was the perfect place to "trap" all of our family and friends for a long weekend (a welcome party Friday, beach day Saturday, rehearsal dinner Saturday night) so that by the time Sunday night rolled round everyone felt like family."
What were your favorite wedding details from the weekend?
While beautiful, my mother's dress was quite different from the look I envisioned for myself; it was form fitting and all lace. Therefore, I ended up seeking out my perfect dress. But, I knew I had to honor my mom in some way so we included the beautiful lace from her dress by wrapping it around my bouquet and my grandmother sewed a small purse for me to carry made out of my mom's dress. My great grandmother's brooch was also pinned to my bouquet as my something borrowed.
"Selecting our readings and readers was very important to us. My grandmothers read a poem called 'On Your Wedding Day'. They are two of my favorite people in the entire world, and it was very important to me to include them. The poem, which was about marriage and the new beginnings, was so fitting for the occasion, and I thought there was no one better to share that than two women who I looked up to and had great loves in their life. We also had Dan's brother's fiance (and the mom of our adorable flower girl) read 1st Corinthians. We knew it was a popular reading, but it's message was very important to us."
What were the most memorable parts of the day?
" I would have to say the first look. On the day of the wedding we were both nervous and very excited, especially Dan. I can't even describe the moment of seeing him for the first time, but for both of us it was like a wave of calmness and serenity ( silly as that may sound.) I later learned Dan was very anxious and stressed which he says all went away after the first look and being able to tell me all about his morning. I am so glad that we had the first look so he could be calm and present during the ceremony. A close second, was our last song - Piano Man. It has become a tradition at our New Years Eve parties to play Piano Man just after midnight. So we decided to select it as the last song of the reception, and swaying in a quite large circle with our best friends and family singing our hearts out was such a happy, perfect ending to what really was our perfect wedding.

Pepper Plantation Wedding from Carolina Photosmith
Just last week, I was at a photo shoot for the upcoming A Lowcountry Wedding print magazine. Vendors from across the Southeast had driven in and weeks of preparation had gone into this one afternoon. Naturally, it rained. What started as a few sprinkles quickly turned into a downpour and by the end of the day, we were all soaking wet and ready to go home. While we definitely made the most of the situation, I couldn't help but think about brides who have to deal with less than ideal weather on their wedding day and how they better love their back up plan! While the weather may have caused today’s couple, Tara + Chris, to make a last minute change and move their ceremony indoors, you’d never guess it was their Plan B. With the fires lit in both fireplaces and the mantle covered with garland and candles, the couple wed indoors in a romantic and cozy setting. Cru Catering delivered yet another fantastic meal while Booty Call kept guests up and moving with their stellar repertoire and lively horn section. Orange Wedding at the Pavilion at Patriots Point by Stephanie Yonce Photography
While many women dream of their wedding day when they were little girls, this was certainly not the case for Emily, as she simply didn’t think anything of planning her wedding day. That was until she met Jack. Their Charleston beach wedding reflected both their fun-loving personalities and causal demeanors. With the help of The Cordial Cricket, Emily and Jack planned every detail of their orange wedding down to the mad-lib response cards. From the bridesmaids’ dresses and Jack Rogers to the starfish inspired raffia chair swag and nautical centerpieces, the wedding day details perfectly complemented the hues of turquoise and orange found throughout the ceremony and reception spaces.
Guests were given a bit of Charleston flair in remembrance of Emily and Jack’s big day. In true Southern fashion, Emily and her mother assembled a small satchel of grits along with a favored shrimp and grits recipe. Sealed with custom labels and love, this DIY wedding favor was a big hit among all the attendees.
When asked about favorite wedding day memories, Emily was particularly fond of their first look. As she shares, “This moment was so special. It was just the two of us, the ‘calm before the storm’, where we had 30 minutes to ourselves to take everything in. It significantly calmed my nerves down, and helped me to really appreciate and remember every moment for the rest of the evening. Not to mention, some of my favorite pictures were taken during this time.”
One of the biggest bits of advice Emily offers for future brides is to accept that some circumstances will be absolutely out of your control. For she and Jack, their sand pouring ceremony didn’t quite turned out as planned with the sand funnel didn’t arrive. She says that laughing it off and moving on is the best way to make an imperfect situation perfect.

Destination Wedding in Charleston at the Island House
If you're planning a destination wedding in the Lowcountry then I suggest you check out this beauty at the Island House. Located just outside of Charleston in Johns Island, the Island House sits on the banks of the Stono River and offers up breathtaking coastal views and gorgeous sunsets. The couple, Stuart + Gillian, hail from Scotland but had previously lived in South Carolina and the globe-trotting duo now reside in Fremantle, Australia. So, it was no surprise that their guest list included friends and family from every corner of the world. Pure Luxe Bride handled all the details and designed a lovely evening along the water in romantic shades of purple. Bride Gillian wore a dreamy Jenny Packham gown with her pulled back in a gorgeous up-do from Ash & Co. Bridal. Branch Design Studio was the brains behind the delightful centerpieces and that amazing bouquet. After an intimate ceremony along the river, guests gathered at one, long table for dinner catered by B. Gourmet Catering. Guests celebrated by dancing to the newlywed's favorite band from Scotland and finished the evening with an unanimous chorus of Auld Lang Syne. Pink & Grey Founders Hall Wedding by Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay
I hope everyone enjoyed the last weekend of the summer season here in the Lowcountry. I have to say that I'm super bummed that my favorite time of the year is now officially over. On the flip-side, the end of summer bring wedding season and SEC Football, so I'm sure I'll move on quickly! As we usher in September, we thought we'd get things started with this lovely Pink and Grey Founders Hall Wedding captured by Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay. Founders Hall is located just outside of Downtown Charleston on the grounds of Charlestowne Landing. It’s the perfect spot for couples looking for a modern venue with a Lowcountry twist, just like Austen + Ryan. Bride Austen donned a lovely lace gown while her bridesmaids sported adorable grey dresses with pink sashes from Target.
