HOW THEY MET: Kayci Loftis & Kendall Henry’s paths first crossed as students at Anderson University when a close friend (and secret matchmaker) encouraged them separately to apply as orientation leaders. That summer, the newly-minted orientation leaders spent time getting to know each other and by the following semester, they were officially a couple.

THE VENUE: When choosing a venue, a location that showcased the Lowcountry was a must. “It wasn’t hard to decide once we pulled into Caledonia,” remembers Kayci. “The second we stepped out of the car, I whispered to Kendall, ‘This is it!’. The couple loved the romantic oak-lined drive and laid-back, Southern vibe. They booked the venue for December 9th, 2017 and invited 275 guests for a Carolina celebration under the stars.

THE DRESS: Kayci didn’t think dress shopping would be difficult, but finding a non-traditional gown that she hadn’t seen before proved harder than she initially thought. In fact, after looking at multiple stores she started to lower her expectations and settle for options that didn’t have the IT factor. Enter a future mother-in-law with stellar Instagram-searching skills. With her help, Kayci laid eyes on a stunning, two-piece, lace Wtoo by Watters with quarter-length sleeves—perfect for her outdoor winter wedding. “I felt like the dress represented me so well and I felt comfortable and confident.” To complete her look, Kayci wore her hair in a curled, low ponytail and natural makeup with golden hues. Her bouquet included caramel antique garden roses, burgundy peonies, cappuccino and quicksand roses, and seasonal berries.

THE VIBE: In keeping with her personal style, Kayci enlisted Willow Event Designs to pair her bohemian aesthetic with a little beachy flair. They worked with a color palette of merlot—to highlight the season—and mauve, as a nod to the dunes, which effortlessly balanced the deep shades of red.

THE BRIDAL PARTY: Her bridesmaids (all 13 of them!) wore Show Me Your Mumu dresses in their choice of three pre-selected colors. To keep warm, they wrapped their shoulders in cream shawls. Kendall and his groomsmen sported navy blue suits and merlot ties to complement the ladies.

THE CEREMONY: The couple let the natural setting of Caledonia dictate the ceremony décor, starting with the large Spanish moss-draped oak tree that served as the ceremony site. A patterned rug, now decor in the couple’s home, laid in front of a wooden cross to create a cozy altar. The couple personalized their vows by braiding a macramé hanging to represent their marriage verse—Ecclesiastes 4:12.

THE RECEPTION: Guests moved from the ceremony site to the tent where Edison bulbs created a soft, warm glow on the early December evening. Fragrant garland of seeded eucalyptus, magnolia leaves, and Douglas fir lined the tables. Loose blooms in moody red tones added pops of color throughout the design. Cocktail hour boasted grilled cheese and tomato bisque shooters—the ultimate comfort food—along with an extensive grazing station. Shrimp & grits, pulled pork, chicken, and mac & cheese were the stars of the Southern-inspired dinner menu. But it was the dessert station—complete with a three-tiered cake, brown butter rice treats, mini pecan pies, and salted caramel brownies—that stole the show. Guests paired their late night sweets with coffee, hot chocolate and hot apple cider, adding a nip of spiced rum or Bailey’s Irish Cream for an extra bit of warmth on the crisp fall night.
