Boone Hall Plantation Wedding Inspiration {JoPhoto} LB Floral

Last week I had a hankering to feature a styled shoot, so I put it out there on twitter and my little heart couldn't have been happier with what rolled into my inbox.  Southern wedding photographer, JoPhoto, made my day and is about to make your week with this stunning Boone Hall Plantation wedding inspiration shoot.  With the help of LB Floral and Vanity Salon, the group created one magical Lowcountry afternoon.  We adore this lovely floral bridal halo, a blooming cotton field, and two dreamy gowns (lace wedding gown, and a flowy bridesmaid gown).   Along with the amazing natural light, The Avenue of Oaks lining the drive of Boone Hall Plantation was the perfect Charleston wedding backdrop and we have a feeling your Pinterest boards will agree.

Founders Hall Wedding {Rebecca + Jarrett} Monika Gauthier

I love a winter wedding, especially when some of Charleston's most sought after vendors are involved!  Francesca from Pure Luxe Bride took the lead for Rebecca + Jarrett's Founders Hall wedding while Monika Gauthier was on hand to capture all the details.  We love their romantic red, black and white color palette and our favorite addition, the bagpipes! charleston weddings

From Pure Luxe Bride: "This brides dream was to have a winter wedding, and that is exactly what she got. Rebecca + Jarrett had their wedding at Founder's Hall on a cool December day. Their colors were red and black with a custom black and white print incorporated into the decor. This winter classic was a great way to end the year!

Let's start with the dress...Rebecca looked absolutely beautiful in her ball gown dress. We couldn't picture her in anything more perfect. She entered into the ceremony to the sounds of Jimmy Ryan, the bagpiper, that certainly made an entrance.

After this sweet couple said "I Do" cocktail hour took place on the patio and inside the great hall. Dinner  was a true southern meal provided by Home Team BBQ complete with pork, chicken, and delicious mac and cheese. Guests enjoyed spending time outside standing around the roaring fire pit. After dinner, the couple cut their cake which was a three tiered white cake with cranberry garnish.

As true South Carolina fans that they are, they had their mascot "Cocky" make an appearance at the reception. The guests had a blast dancing and taking pictures with Cocky and the bride + groom were in gamecock heaven.  It was certainly a great ending to a wonderful evening that Pure Luxe Bride was so happy to be apart of."

Charleston Engagement {Katie + Brett} Dana Cubbage Weddings

To keep the party going, we're continuing our Southern wedding Sunday with the perfect Holy City engagement session from our friend, and talented Charleston wedding photographer, Dana Cubbage Weddings! From Dana: "Katie + Brett are getting married next March and we recently met for their downtown Charleston engagement session. They brought along their 7 year old French Bulldog named Sug, who was a total rockstar. Then we headed to the College of Charleston campus, where both Katie + Brett met and went to college. We ended the night at Cru Cafe, where they shared their first date over 10 years ago. I had a blast hanging out with them and can't wait for their wedding next spring!"

Charleston Engagement {Amanda + Andrew} Priscilla Thomas Photography

Last summer we teamed up with our friend and fellow ALW Vendor, the talented Priscilla Thomas Photography to offer one lucky couple an 8 hour wedding day photography package for FREE!    Could you imagine winning a photography package from an amazing Charleston wedding photographer like Priscilla?  It makes me envious, that's all I'm saying!  Well Amanda and Andrew were the winning duo and today we get to share their Lowcountry engagement session.  Congrats to the lucky couple, we can't wait to see their Boone Hall Plantation bash! charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings

Tell us a little bit about yourselves!

Amanda -  I'm a pharmacist and I live in Asheville, NC and am really enjoying taking advantage of all the NC mountains offers including hiking, biking, the Biltmore Estate, and the great local brewery scene.
Andrew - Lives in Panama City Beach, FL currently. He is a photojournalist at the Panama City News Herald and also really enjoys videography/documentary work. Andrew also enjoys building websites in his free time and building things.
We both enjoy traveling and sailing together too!

charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings

How did the two of you meet?
We met in high school when I was a junior and Andrew was a senior. After being introduced, Andrew asked me on our first date to Elmo's Diner in Durham, NC and the rest is history!

charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddings

How would you describe yourselves?

Amanda - Friends would say I am fun-loving, caring, loyal and dedicated. Andrew would add that I'm detail oriented almost to a fault, which I blame on my science background. ;)
Andrew is definitely more of the free-spirited one, as he is more spontaneous, creative, and just plain goofy. We definitely balance each other out.

Tell us ALL about the proposal.  We love a great story!
I had December off from pharmacy school so I was spending the majority of it down in Florida with Andrew. We traveled to NC to spend Christmas with my family and to visit his family too. While we were at my parents house Andrew asked my parents for permission to marry me. And while visiting his family, he picked up his grandmother's beautiful engagement ring. When we got back down to FL, we went to our usual Sunday brunch spot and afterward Andrew proposed. Although I knew is was coming eventually, I did not think he would propose until after I was finished with graduate school so I was completely surprised, which my friends will tell you is hard to do.

charleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingscharleston weddings, hilton head weddings, myrtle beach weddingsWhat do you envision for your wedding day? (Colors, theme, unique features to make it your own)We envision our wedding day being romantic and vintage. The Cotton Dock at Boone Hall is right on the water, which is important to us. We plan on decorating with white drapery and lots of candles to warm up the mostly wooden space. We're not entirely sure on colors yet, but will probably end up leaning towards some shade of blue as the main color.

What attire style fits your wedding? (black tie, Charleston casual, suit & tie, a day at the beach)
Definitely Charleston casual. The men will most likely wear gingham shirts with vests and my dress is very light and flowing.

Creek Club at I'On weddings in Charleston SC

We love when brides choose to host their weddings in Charleston SC!  The beauty in the Lowcountry is unmatched and they always make for a great time!  Ashley and Michael first laid eyes on each other while at a work conference in Cancun and quickly were inseparable.  So, when it was time say "I do", they wanted it to be something their friends and family could enjoy. The obvious enjoyable answer... a Charleston wedding at the beautiful Creek Club at I'On. They wanted something small, unique and classy and with the help of Wildflowers Inc, they got just that!  The couple selected an ocean blue, and soft, mint green as their color palette. The food was fantastic, the decor was perfection and the tunes were on point.  Thanks to Wanda Cavazos of Richard Bell Photography for capturing all the details!

Wickliffe House Wedding {Alli + Johnny} Ave Nocturna Photography

If you love Charleston weddings, and I know you do, then we think you should head on over to check out the new edition of A Lowcountry Wedding Mag!  It's fantastic and features some of our Lowcountry favorites from Charleston, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach!  So after you enjoy this gorgeous Wickliffe House wedding, head on over and be inspired by all that the Fall/Winter edition has to offer.   Check it out and get your copies here.  The adorable Alli + Johnny were married in a traditional ceremony this past September in Downtown Charleston.  With a beautiful color palette of chocolate and orange, the couple gave an elegant touch to their Fall celebration.  Thanks to Ave Nocturna Photography for capturing all the details! wickliffe house wedding in charleston, sc

"My best advice to brides would be to work with vendors whom you really enjoy, admire or greatly respect.  Throughout the wedding planning process, you spend an unbelievable amount of time communicating with them both in person and via email and it definitely helped in times of stress to be communicating to someone I liked. Also, some vendors you will see for a longer amount of time during your wedding than you do your guests! This is especially true of the photographer!"

"I am so glad I wrote letters to my each of my parents and my fiancé (at the time) and gave it to them the day before the wedding. In life there are rare occasions where you are making a major life transition and have a perfect opportunity to tell someone how much they mean to you and how much you appreciate their love and support. In addition, expressed my gratitude for the gift of a wedding celebration as well as my excitemen for the weekend. For my parents letter, I spoke about how much I appreciated their love and encourage over the years and talked about how my fiancé is exactly who they have wanted me to marry. To my future husband, I wrote about why I wanted to marry him, what I was excited about for our life together and how very much I love him."

Also, I am so glad we decided to do all of our speeches during the rehearsal dinner! This allowed people to talk as long as they wanted without feeling rushed. Also, everyone who came to the rehearsal dinner really wanted to be there and it felt really special. Also, logistically, everyone could hear the speeches since it was a smaller crowd.

Boone Hall Plantation Wedding {Ginny + Zach} Ooh! Events

I'm just going to give you a heads up, when you see beautiful Bride Ginny, you'll immediately be super envious of how stunning she looks.  She wore a flowing, strapless gown while her hair was effortlessly curled, which is how I always want my hair to look - perfect, yet not trying too hard - and an amazing headpiece that might just stop you in your tracks.  Seriously gorgeous.  Not only did the bride take our breath away, but everything about her Boone Hall Plantation wedding had us wanting more!  That wonderful crew at Ooh! Boone Hall Plantation Wedding {Tabatha + Stuart}

Tabatha + Stuart tied the knot this past April in a lovely Lowcountry ceremony in Mount Pleasant, SC.  The two said 'I do' in front of their dearest friends and family as they kicked off their beautiful Boone Hall Plantation wedding.  The Bride's mother owns Blanche Darby Florist, so it was no surprise the flowers were showstoppers! I'm quite sure Tabatha's bouquet of hydrangeas and roses will be a pinterest favorite!  After, the couple headed downtown for an evening of celebration at the Doubletree where Lee Edwards Entertainment kept the guests on their feet.  Thanks to Amy Marie Kay Photography for capturing all the details!

Charlestowne Landing Wedding Engagement {Mandy + Kevin}

You may remember a few months back when Charleston wedding photographer, The Click Chick Photography, launched a brand spanking new site.  In celebration of the new makeover, she gifted one lucky couple with free wedding photography package.  The winning twosome - the adorable Mandy + Kevin!  Check out their sun-drenched Charlestowne Landing wedding engagement and all the details from The Click Chick Photography...

Mandy & Kevin are so in love and it was evident during their engagement session at Charlestowne Landing in Charleston, South Carolina. Tego the dog came along, as well as some fun vintage bikes, a giant balloon, and peaches (since their wedding is going to be in Savannah, GA). After hitting many speed bumps preceding our session (the Etsy balloon wasn't going to be here on time, where are we going to find peaches out of season??), some mad DIY skills (Mandy copied the balloon we had found on Etsy- seriously, you couldn't tell the difference) we were blessed with an unseasonably warm and beautiful day with the sweetgrass in full bloom and the marsh aglow with sunshine.

What is your favorite thing about Kevin? "His sense of humor." What is your favorite thing about Mandy? "Her laugh and how wonderfully weird she is."

From the bride: "I grew up in Michigan and Kevin bounced back and forth between Tennessee and Michigan his whole life. We dated for a year when we were 18. We broke up, and ran into each other frequently in college. We reconnected two years ago at a friend's wedding and moved to North Carolina for a year. That was my first taste of southern living. His job transferred to Savannah in February and we got engaged in August 2013. Since our wedding will be like a vacation for most people, we are trying to tie in the best parts of Savannah, Georgia, and the South."

Charleston Weddings {Anne + Andrew} Middleton Place

I’m kind of a huge fan of Olivia Griffin Photography.  She shoots film.  It’s awesome.  Like really awesome.  So, when she sent over Andrew + Anne’s Middleton Place engagement, I drooled a bit and then begged (and pleaded!) to share it on the blog because I knew it was just that swoon-worthy.  It’s no secret that Lowcountry brides love Charleston weddings but what they really value is amazing photography.  Timeless photography that you know you’ll be able to share with your family for years to come.  They want to create heirlooms, and that’s just what Olivia Griffin’s work does.

Legare Waring House Wedding Engagement {Jessica + Stephen} Loren Routhier Photography

We've been spending this weekend working on a new and improved media kit, finishing the few remaining details to have our new app built and working on some site updates.  It's been so busy and we think it's time to rest!   So, as we head out to enjoy this beautiful January day, we thought we'd kick your Sunday Funday off with a lovely Legare Waring House wedding engagement from our friend Loren Routhier Photography.  Jessica + Stephen spent the perfect Lowcountry afternoon  on the grounds of Charlestowne Landing where the lovebirds enjoyed exploring all the beauty.  We love Jessica's timeless outfit selections (and Stephen's are cute, too!), her adorable up-do and leopard print scarf.   Thanks for sharing such a wonderful engagement session and we can't wait to see your big Sewee Preserve day!

Fashion Editorial {RiverOaks} A Lowcountry Wedidng Magazine

When the wheels started churning for the premier issue of A Lowcountry Wedding, I realized we had to knock it out of the park with our fashion editorial.  Like, OUT. OF. THE PARK...and I think we did!  We were blessed to have the amazing Angela Cox Photography join us (she's seriously a dream) along with the seriously talented Ashley of Ash and Co. Bridal.  Not to mention, we had the privilege of calling RiverOaks home on that steaming hot August morning!  Our gorgeous Bride Katie rocked gowns from a few of our favorite establishments including Kira Elizabeth Designs, Maddison Row and LulaKate, along with jewels from Moon & Lola and Candy Shop Vintage!

Charleston Weddings {Amanda + Derek} Pepper Plantation

Our first issue of A Lowcountry Wedding Magazine served up quite an amazing group of Southern soirees filled with darling details from the top vendors on the coast of Carolina.  They were pretty amazing if I do say so myself, and Amanda + Derek's Pepper Plantation wedding was at the top of the list!  We all love Charleston weddings and when captured by Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay they tend to take our breath away.  The minute I caught a glance of Amanda's dreamy neutral color palette I was hooked and the loveliness didn't stop there.  The beautiful bride, her mother and sister teamed up with those talented ladies over at Ooh! Events to pull off a Lowcountry bash for books and the details are bound to make you swoon!  Dying to see more?! Check out all the details in our complete digital edition of A Lowcountry Wedding Mag available for purchase here!

"Derek is a Southern gentleman from Alabama, and I'm a California girl.  Derek moved to California for his job and since he didn't know anyone there when he moved, his boss suggested he join eharmony to help him meet people.  Since I was always meeting the wrong men, my friends and I popped open a bottle of wine one night and they created my profile for me.  He was the first guy who contacted me. We began emailing, then texting, then finally met.  After a year and a half of dating he proposed!  (There is more of our individual bios on our wedding website that you are welcome to use if you want more information).

Since all of my family lives in California, and all of his family lives in Alabama, we were going to have the wedding somewhere in the middle, but finally decided on Charleston.  I had traveled there before and fell in love with the city.  I knew this was going to be a challenge, planning a wedding from across the country, and couldn't have done it without the help of my Mom and Sister."

What made you choose your venue? What elements drew you to it?

When booking The Pepper Plantation we literally had to take a leap of faith.  Planning from California, we had never seen the Charleston wedding venue in person but fell in love with the pictures we saw online.  We found out that March 16th was the only date available.  I remember calling Derek and saying, "I think we should just book it."  I don't know what came over me.  I think I was eager to put a big, fate, red check mark next to something on my endless "wedding planning" list.  When the day finally came to see the venue in person, we were so happy!  We love the open wood beams on the inside, and the rustic/masculine feel.  Also the fact that it's just outside donwtown Charleston.  "We did good babe" was what Derek told me after walking around the venue for the first time.  I think we did good too.

Tell us all about the details!  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite?

My Mother worked at a florist in Orange Country, CA for many years so the flowers were her department, and they turned out beautiful.  We had to book all of our Charleston wedding vendors in advance without any interviews.  This is where A Low Country Wedding helped tremendously.  I found most of my vendors through your site.  After booking, my Mom, sister and I made a "girls trip" to Charleston where we set-up meetings with everyone!  It was quite a trip!  Coincidentally, my husband's job relocated him to Greenville, SC so I ended up moving there with him in January.  My Mom would ship me homemade details to bring to the wedding.  She created a custom moss-covered "H" (for Holley) to sit on the mantle, and it sits on the mantle in our home today.  My sister made all of my programs and shipped those to me.  They shipped me horseshoes to have as a lawn game.  One of my favorite details was our guestbook that they had ordered off etsy.  Guests would "leaf" their fingerprint on a hand-painted tree.

I also loved the antique bar we rented, our cigar bar and the lawn games we had for guests to enjoy (corn hole and horseshoes).  With so many activities going on, it was such a fun afternoon!  Our guests from California loved all the "Southern" touches that they never would have experienced at a wedding in California.  We also collected pictures of us as children and put mine on the "Ladies" room door and his on the "Gentlemens" room door.  This was such a cute touch that our guests loved.

I hate taking pictures (and so does Derek) but one of the most surprising aspects of that day was how much fun we had taking pictures with our photographers.  Sean and Elizabeth are SO unbelievably awesome at what they do.  They met with us before the wedding a couple times, spent quality time with us, laughed with us, I mean... really got to know us.  The first time Derek took me home to meet his family in Alabama, he took me hunting and I shot a Buck.  I think that made him fall in love with me! ;-)  This CA girl had never even shot a gun.  Anyway, Sean knew Derek was a big hunter and brought this really cool antique gun for us to pose with.  They brought fun props (like old cameras) for us to play around with.  It made our pictures tell our love story and every time I look at them I smile at how much fun we have together.

For the week of the wedding, my Parents rented a huge beach house on the Isle of Palms for my entire bridal party to stay in. It was the most favorite week of my life.  Every day we had a different assembly line going on.  We bought pralines from the open market in downtown Charleston, stuffed them in bags tied with ribbon, made homemade "Love is Sweet" stickers and gave them to guests as favors.  We made my seating chart, bought the frame for my guestbook.  Every where I looked the night of my wedding reminded me of the love from my family and girlfriends.  Without their help, I would have been a disaster.

How did he propose?  How long were you engaged for?

I knew the engagement was coming.  We had to talk about the move to South Carolina and the timeline of everything.  I am the hardest person to surprise because I guess everything.  Every time Derek would say we're going out to dinner... ask me to go on a walk... I would think "this it it!! get ready!!"  He KNEW I was anticipating it.  One night I was going to his house after work.  I was stuck in Los Angeles traffic and in a bad mood when he called and said he wouldn't be home until later that evening because he had to help his boss move.  He said he would leave the key to his house in the tomato plant we had just planted together.  I get to his place, go up the steps to the door, look in the tomato plant and there is a ring box.  He opens the door, crying like I've never seen him cry before, got on one knee and proposed.  He definitely surprised a girl who can't be surprised!

What’s your favorite picture from your wedding and why?

This is such a difficult question.  I LOVE all of our pictures, really and truly.  I cannot give enough praise to Sean and Elizabeth.  A picture that stands out in my mind is one that wasn't planned.  Derek and I were on the dance floor with all of our family and friends having the time of our lives, unaware that anyone was taking a picture of us and Sean & Elizabeth captured that perfect moment.  It's in black & white and we're just staring into each other's eyes.  I love it!

Tell us a little bit about your menu…

Since the majority of my guests were coming from California, I really wanted them to get a taste of the South.  We had boiled peanuts by the bar during cocktail hour and pimiento cheese was passed around with some other delicious creations by The Crazy Dutchman.  (When I first started dating Derek, I had never even heard of pimiento cheese).  Shrimp and Grits, pork tenderloin and delicious sides were served at dinner with sweet tea of course.

Specialty Drinks?

When I first moved to South Carolina I discovered Firefly Sweet Tea vodka, so of course that had to be my specialty drink!  Derek chose scotch as his signature drink to go along with the cigar bar we created near the outside fireplace.  We had custom matchbooks made with our names and a deer with antlers on the front to appeal to all the men.  He also made sure to have the local Palmetto micro-brew as a beer selection.

Most valuable piece of advice you’d give to a newly engaged bride

Really take time to enjoy the process and the big day.  It is SO easy to stress about every little detail and become Bridezilla.  Try to not worry about what other people will think.  Think about what you want, what you love, your love for your fiancé and take help from whoever offers!  Most importantly,  soak up every moment of your wedding day.  After months of planning, it goes by way too fast.  I remember being on the dance floor and the wedding planner tapped me on the shoulder saying it was time to prepare for our farewell.  I started crying because I wasn't ready for the party to be over!
