boutonnieres

These bouts are made for walkin’...down the aisle! {Boutonnieres}

Attention, class! Let’s start the day off with a history lesson. Whether it’s a Hawaiian lei, a Greek Orthodox flower crown, or classic boutonnieres, men throughout the world sport flowers on their wedding day to promote fertility and chivalry, and to ward off evil spirits. So where did this custom come from? In the Middle Ages, a knight entering battle would often bear a token from his lady close to his heart. Today, contemporary grooms have adapted the age-old tradition and don a flower from the bride’s bouquet on the left lapel of their suit. From an elegant and simple rosebud to a sweet and rustic succulent, there are a variety of options for your very own knight in shining armor!

Lowcountry Boutonnieres {Wedding Details}

As you all know, it's Tuesday, which means it's detail day around here...and today, it's all about boutonnieres!  While the rules are flexible, most couples tend to accessorize any important person that is not part of the bridal party which a big, beautiful bout.  Normally, this tends to include parents, grandparents, ushers and readers.  While most leading ladies tend to stress over the style and look of the flowers they will carry down the aisle,  few give much thought as to what their husband-to-be will be sporting.  Our best advice is to let the your personal style, location and season lead the way and don't be scared to utilize non-floral materials such as feathers, cotton, fabric and even buttons.  Hopefully, this round up will get your creative juices flowing.. charleston wedding blogs, hilton head wedding blogs, myrtle beach wedding blogs, lowcountry weddings, southern weddings, boutonnieres, flowers, florist

Southern Weddings {Boutonnieres}

I consider myself a decent speller, but the word 'boutonniere' throws me every time...so, I usually just stick with the term 'bouts'.  A 'bout' is simple and cute (it comes from the French term 'buttonhole') and doesn't put my spelling ability to the test...problem solved!  You'll usually find them as a single bud, sometimes a gathering of 2-3, adorned with leaves or foliage and secured by a simple ribbon.  The color scheme of a bout ties in seamlessly with the rest of the wedding and tends to match the bride's bouquet.  We've collected Part II (see Part I here!) of our favorites that range from modern to vintage and simple to ornate.  Don't you just love how these little guys perfectly accessorize our Southern fellas.
