The NotWedding Charleston Returns to Boone Hall Plantation this July!

We are thrilled to announce that The NotWedding is returning to Charleston for round two this summer at one of our favorite Charleston wedding venues, Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday, July 9th.   So mark your calendars!  The ceremony is planned for 7:00 pm and already has quite the extensive line-up of Lowcountry wedding vendors.   The NotWedding is a bridal show alternative in the form of a big, fake wedding. “Wedding Guests” are brides- and grooms-to-be who enjoy a touching ceremony, a tasty dinner and a dance-party reception while truly experiencing the wedding vendors in action.  Not to mention, The Not Wedding always creates some serious prettiness and dreamy inspiration for your big day.  You can check out The Not Wedding Charleston which was held at the Rice Mill Building last year.

Those attending will experience a perfectly planned “wedding” and have the opportunity to meet the vendors (including The Click Chick Photography, Clay Austin Photography & Scarlet Plan & Design) behind the scene. The bride and groom featured throughout the event are actually a married couple from the Charleston area that will be using the event to renew their vows.

Tickets include an emotional (fake) wedding ceremony encouraging strong marriages, a delectable catered dinner, and a reception full of drinks, dancing and dessert. The NotWedding also boasts a handful of surprises planned for the guests throughout the evening.

Callie Murray, owner of The NotWedding, believes her company offers a revolutionary twist to the traditional bridal show: “The NotWedding allows brides-to-be to get a feel for how wedding vendors would actually perform on their wedding day, and wedding vendors love being able to truly show off what they do and how they work under the normal pressures of a wedding day.”

Charleston Wedding Winter Fashion {Zero George}

A few weeks ago, thanks to the hospitable ladies of Easton Events, I had the pleasure of spending an evening knee-deep in Charleston wedding fashion (just how I like it!) at the lovely Zero George.  If you’ve never moseyed on over to the quaint hotel on the corner of George and East Bay, you’re simply missing out.  It’s effortlessly luxurious vibe made me feel like I had stumbled upon a little hidden secret in the heart of the Holy City.  It was the perfect backdrop to enjoy a collection of swoon-worthy gowns from Maddison Row and their dreamy counterparts from Bella BridesmaidCharleston Events Hair and Makeup finished the off the looks with show-stopping hair and makeup while Sara York Grimshaw designed elegant arrangements throughout.  As always, thanks to the talented Virgil Bunao for capturing all the pretty!

The NotWedding {Vendor Applications}

Just in case you haven't heard, our friends at The NotWedding are heading to Lowcountry in just a few weeks and, lucky for all you Charleston wedding vendors, you can still be involved.  That's right...it's the last call for vendor applications! This bridal show alternative in the form of a big, fake wedding is coming to the Rice Mill Building June 13th, and they'd love to hear from any local wedding vendors interested in joining in on all the fun! They especially love hearing about new businesses, so don't be shy! You can find out more and apply online at www.thenotwedding.com/apply. the notwedding charleston

I actually was lucky enough to recently mix and mingle with the crew of vendors involved in this season's NotWedding Charleston just a few weeks ago, and I'll tell you what...it is one talented group!  We munched on delicious Lowcountry cuisine at Rue de Jean from Holy City Hospitality that included oysters, ham biscuits and mac and cheese as Angela Cox captured the entire evening.  Can't wait til June!

Charleston Wedding Events {The NotWedding}

We’ve been anxiously awaiting the day when our friends at The NotWedding would grace us with their presence and, finally, they’ve answered our prayers!  They’ve teamed up with the crew at Good Food Catering to host their first ever event in Charleston at the Historic Rice Mill Building this summer on June 13th!  For those of you who have never had the pleasure of attending, this is a bridal event you don’t want to miss! charleston weddings

Complete with a sit-down dinner, an emotional ceremony and a dance-party reception, The NotWedding has become a killer alternative to a bridal show. Spotlight: Lindsay {Wined & Designed}

A Lowcountry Wedding is SUPER excited to announce our favorite wedding vendors is heading to town later this month!.  Ms. Lindsay, of Wined & Designed, is gracing the Lowcountry with her presence in a fabulous Wedding Stationery Trunk Show March 25-29th, and I can assure you this is one you don't want to miss. Much like a traditional wedding gown trunk show, Lindsay offers brides a unique opportunity to sit down an talk serious details as she tailors your wedding day stationery into a fabulous and personalized finished product! So, in honor of the upcoming Stationery Trunk Show, we asked adorable Lindsay a few, quick questions to get to know here a little better...
.
.
Tell us all about Lindsay...
I am a pretty spirited little lady with an insatiable appetite for life and design. I was raised as a Navy Brat along with my 3 older brothers, moving back and forth across the country practically every 2 years. The varying landscapes provided endless inspiration and developed my zest for travel & experiencing culture. My parents say they knew ages ago that this career path was for me because they couldn’t keep my original artwork off of the walls of every military house we lived in.
.
Right now I reside in Bermuda,  where I am lucky enough to be surrounded by beauty and am constantly inspired by the endless piercing sunsets, changing tides and pink sandy beaches. Come visit!
charleston weddings
.
Give us one crazy fun fact we wouldn't know about you...
.-Fun or FUNNY fact? How about funny? When I was little, my dream was to be a model, as in tall (I'm barely 5'7"), leggy, beautiful and photographed for a living…and I SERIOUSLY thought that's what I was going to be-I may have even prayed for it! You can imagine how funny my brothers thought it was, especially considering I was a pretty chubby little kid!
.
charleston wedding invitations
.
Give us a little background on how Wined & Designed came to life...
-My love affair with paper, crafts and art began when I was very small, coloring on the walls of every military owned house we lived in. I am a trained graphic designer (BFA in Graphic Design from University of Florida, MA in Motion Media from SCAD) and I LOVE branding, so in 2005, when my oldest brother got married, it was my duty to create the rehearsal dinner invitations. Man, did that ever spark something! As a poor student, I continued to offer my design services to friends who were getting married. I started to see the parallels of branding a company and branding an event, only the event aspect (particularly something so personal as a wedding) was much more special to me. The relationships that are harvested throughout the process of designing wedding stationery—something so personal—are unlike any other. There is great pleasure in being able to listen to brides/couples and in being invited to share in their stories. It is these relationships, after all, that inspire the finished products, and there is no cooler aspect to a completed stationery suite than knowing that the textures, colors, fonts, illustrations, paper weights, and all of the bells & whistles were all selected to reflect individuals. It never gets old, I get so excited each time I start working with someone new!
.
hilton head weddings
.
What is the one tip you wish you could tell every bride?
-Relax and let the professionals (or anyone else!) do the work. I've never planned a wedding, but I know many, many people who have. Most, I find, who have planned on doing a lot of the work themselves end up running out of time or are stressed, etc. It's your engagement…RELAXXXX!
.
myrtle beach weddings
.
How can a bride come prepared to her stationery appointment?
-Ohhhh, I get so anxious to meet the brides!! But before I do, there are a definitely a few housekeeping items to take care of: I would say, consider any additional stationery items you may need (these may include: save-the-dates, invitations, events guides for guests, maps, programs, menus, escort cards, table numbers, favor tags, thank you notes, etc...)
.
lowcountry weddings. Gather information! The idea is to make your experience easy, enjoyable and stress free. The more I know about a couple and their wedding vision, the better their experience & the more personal their invitations. Pull pictures from magazines/pinterest/google of anything that represents you!
.
If you have reserved an appointment, I probably sent you a workbook—Fill it out!
.
southern weddings
.
In three words, sum up your personal style...
-Only 3!!?! Hmmmm…
1. Eclectic
2. Casual
3. FUNNNNN
4. Big Hair…oh, sorry, that is 4.
.
southern wedding invitations
.
Favorite invitation you've ever designed and a little story about the creative process...
-Stop asking me hard questions! It honestly is very difficult because I get so attached to not just the finished product, but the wonderful couples I work with. Each stationery suite has a unique story to it.
 .charleston wedding vendors
.
If I HAD to pick one, I would say it's the Art Deco Invitation Suite, and everything else that went along with it. It was a fully comprehensive package and it turned out so beautifully. The invitations themselves were completely letterpresses (by Cucumber Press--wonderful woman over there!) including the return addresses on the envelopes. There were so many small details, menus to drink station signs to the gorgeous, vintage style poster! The venue was The Carlyle Club in Alexandria, VA. It is a 1930's NYC style supper club that is completely designed with Art Deco flare. There are patterns on the wall, the linens, EVERYWHERE. The paper goods just seemed like they fit so well. That was a true "branded" event.
 .charleston wedding blogs
.
What blogs provide you daily inspiration to keep your creative juices flowing (non-wedding related)...
-How much time do you have? Ha! I have so many blogs bookmarked. My mood kind of dictates where I look, and I try to change it up often to expose myself to different styles & personalities.
.
Some of my mainstays are:
.
COLOR. Everywhere! I love not only this brand and what it represents, but the blog covers so many different topics. It's hard not to be in a great mood after scrolling through the pages. It is overwhelmingly cheery, and I love it!

What do you love most about Lowcountry weddings?
The charm. Every Lowcountry wedding I see is like a fairy tale. There is no shortage of photo opportunity, from the shade of the Spanish Moss trees to the buckling wood of an old dock next to the river to the cotton fields. There is true romance, hospitality, and of course, wonderful family & friends surrounding!

Crown Royal Maple Finished

My husband and I recently headed to Social Wine Bar for the Crown Royal Maple Whisky tasting and we were both immediately hooked!  As a gal who tends to enjoy her wine (who am I kidding, I love my wine), I was pleasantly surprised by the taste.  Being from the Crown Royal family, I naturally knew it would go down smooth but the sweet maple flavor gives it a cozy feeling that makes you keep wanting more.  All I could keep thinking was, 'This will be the perfect addition to next year's tailgating must-haves!'  Brian, my husband, is completely and utterly in love.  The first thing he asks when we stop into one of the many local watering holes around town is, 'Do you have Crown Royal Maple?'  We've only run across it at one other establishment but if I know my husband, he'll have it all over the city in no time!  So keep your eye out as it slowly takes over the Lowcountry! charleston weddings

So, why am I sharing this on A Lowcountry Wedding you might ask?  Well, to put it simply, Crown Royal Maple makes the perfect signature drink for your upcoming Southern bash...and boy do I mean perfect!  It's no secret most of ladies do love something to sip on something a little girly but I think you'll quickly fall in love with these two recipes that will be a huge hit with the guys and gals on your guest list!

(Btdubs - my fav!)

1.5 oz Crown Royal Maple Whisky

.75 oz Lemon Juice

Combine all ingredients in shaker and strain into a highball glass.  Garnish with a lemon wedge.

Sounds delicious, huh?  Head on over to Social and test it out.  I promise you'll be hooked!

Charleston Welcome Guide {Wedding Details}

When planning a Charleston wedding, more often than not, you'll probably be expecting quite a few out-of-town guests who aren't too familiar with the area.  To assist your wedding travelers, it's important to make sure they are aware of all the best attractions: restaurants, historical sites, shopping...you name it!  They can google the Holy City all day long but it's important to hear your recommendations to ensure they really get to experience everything Charleston has to offer.  It's your chance to show them why Charleston was your city of choice! Kristie from Say LULLOW Creative assisted Meghan + Jon in creating the perfect Charleston guide to welcome their guests.  The couple compiled some of their favorite places to "eat, drink and be merry" in varying price ranges that they thought their guests would enjoy.  Kristie has kindly offered our A Lowcountry Wedding readers a 10% discount on their very own Charleston guide.  To receive the discount, enter the coupon code SAYLULLOWLOWCOUNTRY at the Say LULLOW Creative Etsy Shop and make sure to contact Kristie for any custom products.

Part II: Charleston Wedding Weekend Venues

So you've got your ceremony and reception venue and are slowly but surely lining up all your wedding day venues, but wait...what about your rehearsal dinner and bridesmaids luncheon?  Well if you're having trouble with your other Wedding Weekend Venues, don't fret, we're here to help!  You may remember a few weeks ago we started our "Wedding Weekend Venues" series with the Maverick Southern Kitchen's crew: featuring Old Village Post House and High Cotton.  Well, we're back this week with more of our favorites and are featuring the appetizing treats of Hospitality Management Group, Inc., better known to most as the Culinary Row of Blossom, Magnolias and Cypress. Besides their exquisite lowcountry cuisine, these neighbors and sister restaurants enhance their already amazing dining experience with a prime Charleston location off historic East Bay and are  the perfect spot for engagement parties, bridal showers, bridesmaids luncheons, rehearsal dinner and bon voyage brunches.

Magnolias

Oh Magnolia's, how I love thee!  Executive Chef Don Drake has a knack for presenting upscale Southern cuisine with an "uptown" twist.  Even your friends from up North won't know what hit 'em after they've been introduced to this supremely Lowcountry menu...chicken livers, anyone?

Magnolia offers two exquisite dining rooms that both share access to the private entrance off the quintessential Charleston, Lodge Alley and the beautiful spiral staircase that leads you straight to Upper Level Galley and lounge area (ideal for cocktail hour).  With its beautiful bay window overlooking the streets of Charleston, The Wine Room can comfortably accommodate 36 of your closest friends and family.  For large groups maxing out at 85, Magnolia offers The Primrose Rose.  Your guest will gawk at the beautiful French doors, balconies with views of Lodge Alley and a neighboring courtyard.

Cypress

So, Chef Craig Deihl is pretty awesome.  I mean, he did win the James Beard award for Best Chef - Southeast in both 2010 and 2011, impressive, eh?  Well, his top notch, Charleston restaurant, Cypress, incorporates the regional fare by taking advantage of the Lowcountry's finest farmers and fishermen.   Additionally, it has a killer 3-story wall o' wine that features over 4,500 different bottles!
