Pink Oldfield Club Wedding by Jill Doty Photography

I’ve been working on the perfect intro for this Oldfield Club wedding and it just wasn't flowing.   Then, it finally hit me.  I’m in love with this wedding because it is totally my style.  In fact, my wedding flowers were the exact same color palette.  Charming shades of pink, a pop of orange, a little coral and a touch of green…and peonies, lots of peonies!  Just perfect for a big, Southern bash.  Not only do I love the design, but I’m head-over-heels for this gorgeous wedding venue.  Located in Okatie, South Carolina (right outside of Hilton Head), Oldfield River Club set the stage for any gal’s dream Lowcountry wedding.  It offers up a stunning outdoor option which allows for ceremonies under the palmetto trees.  I mean, come on.  How perfect is that?  Kayla and Josh made sure to utilize the property to the fullest extent with a ceremony on the lawn, pictures on the dock and dancing on the patio.  My favorites details – the adorable flower girl’s pale pink dress, the bridesmaids’ monogrammed fishing shirts, the rustic addition of the ceremony doors and ALL of the dreamy florals from Fleurish of Statesboro.  A big thank you to Jill Doty Photography for capturing all the lovely details. Thomas Bennett House Wedding Inspiration from Jeanne Mitchum Photography

If you're in the market to be inspired, then I'm about to hook you up with this Thomas Bennett House beauty!  The lovely Jeanne Mitchum Photography sent over this killer collaboration with Wildflowers Inc. and I immediately knew I had to share it.  The color palette starts with varying shades of green and slowly adds in magenta with pops of yellow and blue.  Not only did the vivid color scheme pull me in, but the awesome mixture of textures that Wildflowers Inc. created completely sealed the deal.   I'm loving the use of succulents (big and small!), the addition of billy balls and how effortlessly the centerpieces made its way down the table.  The invitation suite from Merrymint Designs combined a beautiful emerald green with gold accents while the intricate cake with lace-like details was styled to the tee!  The vintage table settings with local honey favors from Bees-R-Us were the perfect way to finish off the look.  Last but not least, the lovely Amanda looked divine in her lace gown with a sweetheart neckline. Rewined Candles Factory Tour in Charleston, SC

This summer, I asked my friend Mackenzie of The Click Chick Photography to join me on a field trip to the aromatic Rewined Candles Factory.  While I may have procrastinated in getting the post up, I’m still daydreaming about the delicious scents and the wonderful people that make Rewined one of our local favorites.  Anita, their marketing gal, and a wonderful candle maker in her own right, was kind enough to give us a peak inside their world and share the tale of how our favorite wicks were born. The story of Rewined Candles immediately made me think, “How did I not think of that?!” Founder Adam Fetsch had been working in the food & bev industry and regularly witnessed the disposal of countless wine bottles.  Soon a light bulb went off and he figured out the perfect way to re-purpose them - wine bottle candles with scents that mimic the tasting notes of wine.  Genius!  In addition the popular wine scents (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, etc.) they've recently added the Produce line to their repertoire.  These lovelies bring the fresh scents of the farm right into your living room (think Carrot, Cilantro, Honey, Melon and more).  I'm currently obsessing over the Fall seasonal, which I'm hoping will become a staple, the Fig.   Our favorite part - these beauties are the perfect addition to your wedding day weekend.  Whether it's favors at your wedding shower or a parting gift for your guests at your reception, everyone's nostrils will thank you!  Oh, and our friends at Rewined could use your help.  They're a finalist in the 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Contest and would love for you to throw them a vote - or two! Navy Pavilion at Patriots Point Wedding by Sweetgrass Social

If you're a Southern gal who's in the mood for a preppy affair, then sit down and take a peek at this Pavilion at Patriots Point wedding from the sweet ladies at Sweetgrass Social.  It's everything you could want in a Lowcountry wedding and so much more.  We love the navy color palette, the boys in their dinner jackets (so very T-Rav of them!), the Citadel ceremony, the charming Navy table runners and last but definitely not least, Shannon's stunning gown.  Thanks to Jamie Clayton Photography for capturing all of the wonderful details. Charleston, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Savannah Weddings

What is your engagement story:
"Dan and I are high school sweethearts.  We had been dating (with the usual college ups + downs) for 10 years, 1 month, and 1 day on the day of our wedding.  So the wedding, especially the reception, was as much about thanking our family and friends for being by our sides during all those years together as it was celebrating our marriage.  We wanted to make sure they felt special and knew how much we appreciated each of them - which was what inspired the photo escort cards and the thank you place cards."

Why did you choose Charleston for your wedding?
"Dan went to the Citadel and we have so many wonderful memories in the city from our college days. So we knew Charleston was the perfect place to "trap" all of our family and friends for a long weekend (a welcome party Friday, beach day Saturday, rehearsal dinner Saturday night) so that by the time Sunday night rolled round everyone felt like family."

What were your favorite wedding details from the weekend?
While beautiful, my mother's dress was quite different from the look I envisioned for myself; it was form fitting and all lace. Therefore, I ended up seeking out my perfect dress.  But, I knew I had to honor my mom in some way so we included the beautiful lace from her dress by wrapping it around my bouquet and my grandmother sewed a small purse for me to carry made out of my mom's dress.  My great grandmother's brooch was also pinned to my bouquet as my something borrowed.

"Selecting our readings and readers was very important to us.  My grandmothers read a poem called 'On Your Wedding Day'.  They are two of my favorite people in the entire world, and it was very important to me to include them.  The poem, which was about marriage and the new beginnings, was so fitting for the occasion, and I thought there was no one better to share that than two women who I looked up to and had great loves in their life.  We also had Dan's brother's fiance (and the mom of our adorable flower girl) read 1st Corinthians. We knew it was a popular reading, but it's message was very important to us."

What were the most memorable parts of the day?
" I would have to say the first look. On the day of the wedding we were both nervous and very excited, especially Dan.  I can't even describe the moment of seeing him for the first time, but for both of us it was like a wave of calmness and serenity ( silly as that may sound.)  I later learned Dan was very anxious and stressed which he says all went away after the first look and being able to tell me all about his morning.  I am so glad that we had the first look so he could be calm and present during the ceremony.  A close second, was our last song - Piano Man.  It has become a tradition at our New Years Eve parties to play Piano Man just after midnight.  So we decided to select it as the last song of the reception, and swaying in a quite large circle with our best friends and family singing our hearts out was such a happy, perfect ending to what really was our perfect wedding.

Orange Wedding at the Pavilion at Patriots Point by Stephanie Yonce Photography

While many women dream of their wedding day when they were little girls, this was certainly not the case for Emily, as she simply didn’t think anything of planning her wedding day. That was until she met Jack.  Their Charleston beach wedding reflected both their fun-loving personalities and causal demeanors.  With the help of The Cordial Cricket, Emily and Jack planned every detail of their orange wedding down to the mad-lib response cards. From the bridesmaids’ dresses and Jack Rogers to the starfish inspired raffia chair swag and nautical centerpieces, the wedding day details perfectly complemented the hues of turquoise and orange found throughout the ceremony and reception spaces. Guests were given a bit of Charleston flair in remembrance of Emily and Jack’s big day. In true Southern fashion, Emily and her mother assembled a small satchel of grits along with a favored shrimp and grits recipe. Sealed with custom labels and love, this DIY wedding favor was a big hit among all the attendees.

When asked about favorite wedding day memories, Emily was particularly fond of their first look. As she shares, “This moment was so special. It was just the two of us, the ‘calm before the storm’, where we had 30 minutes to ourselves to take everything in. It significantly calmed my nerves down, and helped me to really appreciate and remember every moment for the rest of the evening. Not to mention, some of my favorite pictures were taken during this time.”

One of the biggest bits of advice Emily offers for future brides is to accept that some circumstances will be absolutely out of your control. For she and Jack, their sand pouring ceremony didn’t quite turned out as planned with the sand funnel didn’t arrive. She says that laughing it off and moving on is the best way to make an imperfect situation perfect.

Star Wars Wedding by Jeanne Mitchum Photography

Betsy & Brad are nothing short of precious, and their authentic Star Wars wedding in Downtown Charleston shows exactly that.  Betsy started her day over at Lava Salon in West Ashley where she had her hair pulled back in a soft up-do before hopping aboard their custom vintage Airstream where she had her make-up done.  Betsy donned a lovely lace gown from Bridal Shop of Charleston while Brad wore a charcoal shirt and vest to go along with his black tie and pants.  The couple celebrated their union with a beautiful affair in the heart of the Holy City at the majestic headquarters of Spoleto Festival USA.  Here, guests dined on a spread of Lowcountry cuisine and enjoyed an adorable cake with Star Wars toppers.  After departing under a tunnel of sparklers, the newlyweds joined their guests for an after party at the dive bar where they first met to continue the celebrating and maybe a little karaoke, too!  Thanks to Jeanne Mitchum Photography for capturing all the details! Tybee Island Wedding Chapel by Gagan Dhiman Photography

You may remember Gagan Dhiman Photography from Amanda + Chris's Savannah Engagement Session or the lovely Dunham Farms wedding we featured earlier this year.  His work is fresh and his vivid images keep you wanting more and more.  So, it was no surprise that we were super excited when this 1920's Gatsby-inspired shoot rolled across our inbox.  Gagan Dhiman teamed up with a slew of talented Savannah Wedding Vendors, starting with the dynamic duo over at Ivory + Beau, who not only designed the afternoon, but also provided that dreamy gown.  These ladies can do no wrong.  The shoot took place right outside of Savannah at the charming Tybee Island Wedding Chapel where Thrive Catering provided the delicious spread and Madame Chrysanthemum handled the flowers.

Hilton Head Wedding Inspiration at Stoney Baynard Ruins

I'm thrilled to share this gorgeous Hilton Head Wedding Inspiration shoot from the talented Julie Roberts.  This beauty was on the grounds of the Stoney Baynard Ruins and combines romantic evening sunlight, the ruins of an old, mysterious Southern Plantation and a veil that's bound to take your breath away. A Lowcountry Wedding Blog & Magazine - Charleston, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach & Savannah Weddings

From Julie Roberts Photography: "This gorgeous couple, Sara and Jack, agreed to model for a little styled session that I did in Hilton Head last summer. I've been so excited to feature these images that are full of super sultry evening sun light. When I first thought of doing this session I called up my friends at The Gilded Gown and they happily agreed to lone us this gorgeous gown, veil, and all accessories as well as the suit and accoutremont. The adorable flowers were done by Allie with Sassafras Flowers. I discovered her through the wonders of facebook ... and was thrilled when she agreed to be a part of this little project. Her work is so whimsical and artistic! The location for our session was a sweet little find my mom discovered tucked away on Hilton Head Island, SC. The Stoney-Baynard Ruins are the remnants of a grand antebellum plantation home built 1793-1810 by Captain John Stoney. The original house was built of timber and tabby which is a mixture of oyster shells, lime, and sand. The up close texture of the ruin walls was WONDERFUL. The home was raided during the Civil War and Union forces made it their headquarters. It burned down shortly after the Civil War. I LOVE the mystery and charm of old plantation ruins. Paired with the elegance of a lace wedding gown and string of fresh water pearls this scene is my idea of the perfect deep south wedding inspiration."

Tennessee Wedding at White Fence Farm by Jessie Felix Photography

We're diving into our Southern Wedding Sunday with a rustic Tennessee wedding from the fabulous Jessie Felix Photography.  Stephanie + Adrian said 'I do' in a lovely outdoor ceremony in Trade, Tennessee at White Fence Farm.  We're obsessing over Stephanie's gorgeous gown, the vintage lace and burlap details, the boys in seersucker, the mason jar favors and, of course, ending the night with fireworks under the Tennessee stars! Folly Beach Wedding by Party.Love.Birds + Erin McGinn Photography

Last year, you may remember we featured Becca + Jay's Folly Beach wedding at the Pink Flamingo Beach House in our inaugural issue of A Lowcountry Wedding Magazine.  It was amazing and the perfect location for anyone looking for a low-key beach affair, so I was super excited when Jenn + Brian's coastal bash made it's way to my inbox.  This sweet couple also selected the Pink Flamingo to host their Lowcountry soiree and, with the help of the team at Party. Love. Birds, they created an effortless ocean side backdrop for their beautiful wedding day.  My favorite details - the dessert bar from Wildflour Pastry, the succulent centerpieces and the outdoor lighting that made for the perfect evening under the stars! Coastal Wedding at the Historic Rice Mill via Joshua Aaron Photography

While we might be taking a little bit of a vacation this week and are FAR away from all things email and social media, we couldn't leave you hanging and deprive you of your daily Lowcountry wedding inspiration.  We'd be terrible wedding bloggers if we did that!  So, we're hooking you up with a beautiful Coastal wedding at the Historic Rice Mill Building designed by the lovely Jacqueline of Sweetgrass Social Event & Design and captured by the talented Joshua Aaron Photography.  Details we're loving: Bride Carrie's dreamy gown, the romantic bouquet Wildflowers Inc. created and how the newlyweds treated their guest to a little Firefly Moonshine! Charleston Wedding at Spoleto Festival USA by Karson Photography

We've had a fun and busy week over here at ALW!  We're prepping for vacation next week (yay!), some much needed re-branding and tweaks to our site, as well as gearing up for some big new over the next few weeks, all while continuing to deliver your daily dose of Lowcountry wedding inspiration.  Earlier this week, we shared all about The Bride's Maids Shop, our favorite must-stop shop for Brides on the hunt for the perfect Bridesmaids gift, a elegant Rice Mill Wedding from Dana Cubbage Weddings and an effortless Holy City engagement session from Sea Star Arts Photography.  But as we round out the week, we're excited to finish things off with a lovely Charleston wedding at the Spoleto Festival USA headquarters in the heart of Downtown captured by the talented team at Karson Photography.  The couple, Helen + Glenn, started their magical afternoon with a traditional ceremony before heading to George Street to celebrate the night away!  We're loving their cheery color palette of bright blues and pops of red! charleston weddings

About Helen + Glenn: "We met while volunteering at the BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival. The first date was five days later, and we had so much chemistry we kept delaying the end of the evening and ending up having a 6 hour date complete with sushi, swing dancing, dessert and coffee. After dating for three years I knew the day was coming, but wasn't sure when. I awoke on that Saturday morning to a text from Glenn telling me he was coming to my apartment and that I should make coffee. I wanted to sleep in, but he was persistent and kept telling me to wake up and make coffee. When I got to my coffee maker I saw an envelope full of 25 cards and 25 reasons why he loved me; I knew then that the proposal was coming, but wasn't sure when it would happen. The rest of the day was full of suspense; we ran errands to places that would be picturesque proposals, but no...I received another envelope of cards over lunch and was "sure" he would propose then, only to have him say he was going to leave and run errands but that I should dress up for dinner. After consulting my girlfriends on what to wear in case I get proposed to (and confirming that I should paint my nails just in case), Glenn arrived back at my apartment that evening dressed to the nines. We then went to the city market, near where his family owns a jewelry store (Gold Creations), and he surprised me with a horse drawn carriage! While on the carriage ride I got to open ANOTHER set of cards of reasons why he loved me (bringing the total to 100), and then we got out at Marion Square and he proposed under the Christmas tree in Marion Square (where we met 3 years prior). From there we had the most delightful dinner at McCrady's letting it all soak in an planning the rest of our lives together. After dinner, we face-timed with my parents (the wonders of iPhone technology) to tell them the good news and finished off the evening with Glenn's last surprise when we got back in the car - a wedding magazine to start our planning!"

Tell us a little bit about how you guys met…

Dave and I met at college our freshman year at University of South Carolina. The girl that lived in the room next to mine, my freshman year, was a friend from his hometown in Massachusetts. Throughout freshman and sophomore year we would run into one another, but it wasn’t till junior year that we started dating.

Over break our junior year Dave randomly called me to see if I would look at an apartment for him. Since he was in Massachusetts and I was in Columbia I told him I would. As a “thank you” he took me on a date to California Dreaming and we were inseparable ever since.  We have been dating going on eight year now and we are loving it!

Let's hear all about the engagement!

We got engaged in the Dominican Republic on October 18th, 2012. We were vacationing at a resort in the Dominican Republic and having a wonderful time. The second night of our vacation we went to dinner at the most beautiful restaurant at the resort, La Yola. The restaurant was on a dock over the water with no walls. There were only a few people at the restaurant, probably four other tables.  The restaurant had a four-piece Dominican mariachi band that played for us all night. We had great food and awesome wine, and as the night went on I kept asking Dave if we could get up and dance. Finally after we had eaten our dinner, Dave caved to my persistent request ;-) and we went to the dock near the water and slow danced to the music from the band. While we were dancing Dave was saying the sweetest things and he got on one knee and asked if I would be his wife. I cannot express my sheer happiness at that exact moment and of course I said yes! While we were hugging, crying, laughing, and kissing, our server brought over some champagne, and the few people in the restaurant all cheered. Our server even took pictures of Dave proposing to me! I later learned that Dave arranged pretty much the whole night... the music, the dancing, the camera, our server, and the delicious champagne.  It was so absolutely wonderful.

We LOVE your beautiful Lowcountry Wedding Venue!  What was it about Dunes West that sealed the deal?

We loved the view of the marsh!  We also liked the style of the club house, the walled garden for the ceremony, and the customer service from Jason Hanson.  They made the wedding planning process at the venue very easy, and were super accommodating about which vendors we brought in, decorations, etc.

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?

Walking down the aisle towards Dave for sure! There was so much emotion on Dave’s face and I couldn’t look away!  He was getting teary eyed and it took everything in my power not to “ugly cry” right then and there.   It was also an amazing feeling to walk towards the person I’m going to marry and be surrounded by all of the people we love and who love us.

What’s your favorite picture from your wedding and why?

To be honest I have several favorite pictures! It’s hard to choose just one, so I’ll give you my top three.

  • While we were getting ready, Monika captured a picture of my mother hugging me. I love this picture because it captures the emotion of my mom beautifully. I’m so happy to have this picture.
  • After the ceremony, Monika captured a picture of me and Dave walking back down the aisle. I love the one of us both looking at the camera. We are both so happy and this picture shows it! When I look at this picture I can feel exactly how I felt that day! It’s an amazing feeling.
  • For the portraits there are so many I love!  One of my favorites is the one where I’m wearing the fur and Dave is whispering in my ear. I’m looking up slightly and smiling. I love both the back and white and color version. Brings back good memories!

To have and to hold in case you get cold – Since our ceremony was outside and in February, we offered to the guest blankets, pashmina wraps, and hand warmers.  That way they could snuggle up during the ceremony outside in the walled garden.

new:  My dress and earrings.  The earrings were a gift from Dave.

Something old and borrowed: For Something the ceremony I borrowed my friend’s, Ashley Lyles, silver fox fur.  The fur was also used at my friend, Amber Maeda’s, wedding.

Something blue: My shoes.  They were navy blue Badgley Mischka.

Tell us all about the details!  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite?

We had many details at our wedding, and listed below are a few of our favorite:

  • Jalapeno Pepper Jelly – These were the party favors (and we had NONE left!).  As a hobby Dave grows a vegetable garden, so we used the jalapeno pepper he grew to make this jelly.  The recipe was Dave’s grandma, who is no longer with us, so we labeled the jars “Mama Frances Jalapeno Pepper Jelly”.  Jalapeno Pepper Jelly is amazing on pork and brie.
  • Coloring Books – We had a lot of kids at our wedding, so we wanted to do something special for them. I created a coloring book (including drawing all of the illustrations) and published it through the company I work for, CreateSpace. We were able to dedicate the coloring book to our four nephews and niece.

Programs – Dave’s mother is a local artist, and she painted in water color of our wedding venue.  We used the painting on the front of the programs. We wanted to be able to incorporate a piece of her beautiful artwork into our wedding.

Tell us a little bit about your menu…

                The menu included:

  • Apps: Sausage stuffed mushroom caps, Silver dollar ham biscuits, Baked brie and crackers and a Vegetable display
  • Dinner Stations: Shrimp and Grits, Carving station with sirloin steak and ham, Pasta station with penne with red sauce and tortellini with cream sauce,  Caesar salad station

Most valuable piece of advice you’d give to a newly engaged bride:

Even though your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, it’s only one day.  Do not get too stressed over the details of the day, it’s only one day!  Even if things don’t work out like you planned it’s okay and it will still be perfect because you are marrying the love of your life.

Oops A Daisy! {Spring Wedding Flowers}

Since Spring just arrived and the weather is (finally!) warming up, we’re excited to welcome the 2014 wedding season to the Lowcountry. We can’t wait to see what our favorite vendors have been up to and the new trends they’re bound to create.  In the meantime, we’ve been pinning away like crazy (go figure!) and while adding a new pair of Hunter rain boots to our wish list and Pinterest-ing the cutest crafts (Hello glitter Easter eggs!), we made a list of our top 10 favorite spring wedding flowers:
